What is Switch Doubles Round Robin?
Also known as rotating partners round robin, it’s a tournament format where players team up with every other player once to play against other pairs, and all players collect points individually. This format is widely used in sports like pickleball and padel (where it’s called “padel americano”).
How Does It Work?
This approach works great when the number of players is a power of 4: 4, 8, 12, 16, etc. Here all players will play:
- same number of games
- once with every other player
- twice against every other player
It still works if the number of players is not a power of 4, but some players will have to play more or less games than others. To balance the points in such cases, usually players with less games played get “M+” points for every missed game comparing to others.
