What is Padel Americano?
It’s the most popular tournament format for padel where everyone plays with and against everyone else. This tournament type is also knows as “round robin tournament“.
In classic padel americano tournament players are paired with the new team member every round, and score points individually. After all rounds are played, the player with the most points becomes the winner (or king/queen of the court).
Players like it cause it’s easy to organize, it’s fun, very social, fair, and works for all levels of players.
There also other variations like mixed americano (where pairs are always male + female) and team americano (where players stay with the same team through out the tournament and score points as a team).
Classic Padel Americano Rules
Let’s take a look at classic padel americano tournament now.
Players
Participants play in pairs, but collect points individually. Each round new pairs are formed so that every player gets to play with everyone else once per tournament.
Games
Each team serves 2-4 times, then passes the serve to the opponent team. Each ball won gives a team one point.
A game is played until a certain total number of points: normally, 16, 24, or 32.
Points and Scoring
When the game is over, each player gets the amount of points his/her team won: if the match ended in 18-14, players from team 1 both get 18 points, and team 2 players — 14 points.
When all games are played, the player with the most points wins the tournament.
How to Organize Padel Americano Tournament
First of all, you need to decide on how many players are going to join the tournament. There need to be at least 4 players to start.
Then, you need to book the adequate number of courts to accommodate all players and use time efficiently. When booking courts, consider the following:
- a 24 points match takes about 10 min to play
- you need to have 1 court for every 4 participants
For example, for 4-7 players you only need 1 court. For 8 people it’s better to have 2 courts: this way you can run 2 matches at the same time.
Then, you need to form pairs, games, and rounds, and run them on the respective courts. This can be challenging, especially if you have more than 4 players. This is what our padel americano app can help you with!
